Advance fares terms and conditions
Advance fares are one-way fares for travel in First Class or Standard. They allow you to book in advance and mix-and-match your outward and return journeys to get the best value.
Advance fares are subject to availability and may not be available on some peak time services.
Reservations are required for the journey and you must travel on the train shown on your ticket or reservation confirmation. These tickets are subject to availability on selected trains. Advance tickets are non-refundable.
These tickets are sold in limited numbers and so are subject to availability. Some train services will be busy so we advise you to book your tickets in plenty of time ahead of travel to ensure you get the ticket type and train service required.
You can buy tickets up to 18:00 on the day before travel.Generally, the earlier these tickets are booked, the lower the fare, but in some instances additional Advance tickets are made available where there is capacity on specific trains.
Railcard discounts are available on Advance fares.
You can make changes to your travel plans up until the departure time shown on your ticket. Changes may only be made if the origin and destination stations stay the same.
For each change, you may have to pay an excess charge, plus a fee of £10 per single ticket. You will need to present your original ticket when you request your change and you must travel on First Great Western trains only, if stated on your ticket.
You may not break and resume your journey at an intermediate station except to change to/from appropriate connecting trains where these are shown on your ticket(s).
Your ticket is only valid for the date, reserved train(s) and reserved seat(s) shown on your ticket(s), plus local connecting train services to and from your reserved train. Advance fares are only available on long distance train journeys across our region.
