The Rail Operator post involves dispatching trains, dealing with customer enquiries and assisting customers who may have difficulties moving between platforms and around the station.
The post holder will also ensure that the station is kept clean. Ideally applicants will have previous customer service experience, enjoy helping people and are keen to contribute to the station’s standard of cleanliness.
This role involves shift and weekend working.

You will be expected to perform a wide range of duties including welcoming customers, ticket checking, sale of products from a trolley and buffet counter and cash handling and stock control.

- Maintenance Technician - Exeter

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a flexible working attitude to join the fleet maintenance team to help service and maintain the current 158/150/153/142 class diesel multiple units that operate throughout the Great Western area.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified mechanical / electrical technicians to work at our maintenance facility at Exeter Depot with a recognised craft apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering. You will join a team of skilled maintenance staff undertaking a range of mechanical and electrical fault finding and repairs on our diesel fleet. All applicants need to be safety conscious and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
The position will require the applicant to work a shift pattern covering 24/7 working and or, night shift working arrangements based at Exeter with the potential to work at other locations within the business for short periods if required. - DEM Technician on Shift

The depot managers are looking for enthusiastic, well-motivated individuals to undertake a team role as a DEM Technician.
The role will cover a multitude of tasks ranging from technical investigations, root cause analysis, fault tree analysis, report collation, reliability centred maintenance, in depth fault finding, procedure collation, process mapping, environmental issues, competency assessments, training, project management and a whole range of engineering type tasks.
DEM technicians will be responsible for supporting the production teams in not only delivering the final product but improving the products performance through process driven change / modification improvements.
Communication is key in everything we do so excellent IT skills would be beneficial in software programs including Excel, word, ravers, bugle, power-point etc.
The DEM team will be responsible for support at all seven of the FGW depots and will work as part of a fully integrated team. A recognised apprenticeship and / or NVQ 3 in engineering or equivalent would be beneficial. Knowledge of Class 142 / 143 / 150 / 153 and 158 diesel multiple units would be highly beneficial.
The position will require the applicant to work a shift pattern covering 24/7 working and or, night shift working arrangements.
- Multi Skilled Technician

The Depot Manager seeks committed, flexible and hard working individuals to join the production maintenance team as a multi-skilled technician.
The job holder will assist in providing a complete service support covering all examination / repair tasks on a wide variety of rolling stock with a clear focus on safety, team working and service delivery.
All applicants should be able to demonstrate good fault finding / diagnostic skills on a wide range of systems utilising schematic drawings and test equipment.

Enthusiastic, flexible and committed individuals are sought to join the existing team of Mobile Riding Inspectors, working under the direction of the Fleet Service Support Manager and Maintenance Controllers.
All applicants should be multi-skilled, apprentice trained or attained NVQ level 3, possessing appropriate certification as an electrician/fitter.
The job-holder will provide customer support and incident management, mainly on The West Fleet core routes and at our maintenance facilities including maintenance activities, advanced fault finding / rectification and defect reporting. West DMU143, 150, 153 & 158 knowledge is essential and HST, 180, 166 and 165 desirable. Knowledge of DP desirable, although training will be provided.
This is a safety critical post and a full driving license is also required.
The successful applicant will also be computer literate, possess excellent communication skills, together with a flexible approach to turns of duty including nights and weekends in order to match train-working requirements and ensure the job is adequately covered.
The successful individual must be able to work on their own initiative, be able to coach others on advanced fault finding techniques, maintain a calm and professional manner during times of operational difficulties and retain a clear focus on important safety and performance criteria.
