The Heart of Wessex Line
'Wessex' - described by Thomas Hardy in his novels as a 'partly real, partly dream country' encompasses parts of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire, and was the Saxon name for that historic and beautiful area of England.

Now you can experience Wessex by train, travelling on the Heart of Wessex Line from the city centre of Bristol to the coastal resort of Weymouth in Dorset .

This scenic line calls at twenty stations between Bristol Temple Meads and Weymouth, so whether you're a commuter going to work, a local resident going shopping or a visitor to the area, the Heart of Wessex Line lets you leave the car behind, enjoy the scenery and relax as you travel.

Alight at Bradford-on-Avon or Avoncliff to stroll alongside the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal, or explore some of the most unspoilt and rural landscapes of Wessex from the halts at Thornford and Chetnole, or the stations at Yetminster and Maiden Newton.

If you love shopping then all the big names can be found in Bristol, or try the tempting array of independent and chain stores in the Georgian streets of Bath. The market towns of Weymouth, Dorchester, Trowbridge, Yeovil, Bruton and Castle Cary are delightful and are great places for exploring or simply browsing in the shops.
