Engineering work information.

Between Saturday 5 December 2009 and Sunday 10 January 2010 work to enlarge the tunnel at the London / Fareham end of Southampton station will be taking place.

This work is to allow larger container trains full access to Southampton Docks.

During this time the following alterations will apply:

When all lines are closed through the tunnel:
 
All First Great Western services will be diverted via Chandlers Ford and Botley and will not be calling at Southampton Central.

Customers travelling to / from Southampton Central in most cases should travel on alternative South West Trains services between Southampton Central and Romsey to connect with First Great Western services.

On some occasions customers travelling to / from Southampton Central will need to travel to / from Eastleigh by rail replacement bus services to connect to / from train services.

When only one railway line is open through the tunnel:
 
Most First Great Western services between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will run via Southampton Central as normal.

Trains will be slightly retimed in both directions between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour.

First Great Western services between Bristol Temple Meads and Brighton in most cases will be diverted via Chandlers Ford and Botley and will not be calling at Southampton Central.

Customers are advised to check their journey times before travelling.
